About Koral Hamburg

Koral Hamburg has been a part of Northwest Ohio’s story for nearly a century. First opened in 1926, it quickly became known as the home of “The Burger at Its Best.” Families in Waterville and Maumee grew up on Koral’s juicy burgers, thick shakes, and warm, old-school diner charm. For generations, it wasn’t just a place to grab a meal it was a gathering spot, a tradition, and a taste of hometown pride.

In 1998, Jay and Melody Surdasky took the reins, continuing the legacy of good food and friendly service. When the Waterville diner closed in 2015, the Surdaskys weren’t ready to let the name fade. Three years later, they rolled out the Koral Hamburg Food Truck, bringing the burgers and the nostalgia back to life for a new generation. Festivals, breweries, and street corners across Toledo once again echoed with the taste and spirit of a local classic.

In 2025, a new chapter began as Brian and Kathy Burnham proudly purchased the food truck. Having moved to the area in 2014, they had already fallen in love with the community and with the Koral legacy. Their vision is clear: keep Koral locally owned, source ingredients from local partners, and honor the nearly 100 years of history that have made the brand so special. At the same time, they’re focused on growing Koral’s presence, filling calendars with events, and making sure every burger comes with the same heart and heritage customers have always known.

Today, Koral Hamburg isn’t just a food truck it’s a living tradition on wheels. From the iconic Kardiac Burger and fries to the beloved retro superhero mascot, Koral Hamburg continues to serve nostalgia with every bite, ensuring that nearly a century of flavor carries proudly into the future.
